Spring is showing its most glorious face down here at the tip of Africa
and it reminds me of all of you who love to travel: you should be here!
See flower carpets as far as the horizon reaches and beyond just after
the rains. . . As the water soaks into the thirsty earth, millions upon
millions of flowers emerge in a phenomenal explosion of colour which
transforms the landscape into a wonderland of beauty.
I remember when driving through this miraculous spectacle as a child,
we had to stop the car from time to time to clear the windscreen from
the honey running down in thick golden waves.
It hasn’t changed!
The Namaqualand spring flowers are justifiably world famous. In a
good year this botanical masterpiece puts on a show that is unrivaled
anywhere on Earth. If you experience this natural wonder you will
remember it for the rest of your life.
One of these days, it will drive me back up there again… Somewhere
I should have a picture from my last trip showing zebra and antilope
within this colourful display like bathing in a salad bowl! Too funny!
