Louis Vuitton always had a passion for the Fine Arts and Artists of any kind - be it in his admiration for the Great Masters in a classical sense or his faible for the contemporary and always being close to if not ahead of trendy developments, always ready to explore, to integrate, to reinvent and to expand…
Just think of the way brass and glitz were added to the pret-a-porter collections of that past few years or all the exclusive bag creations from the Richard Prince range adorned with spray paint used to print innovatively tweaked logos and texts linking back to works by the artist. Which also goes for the range of the famous LV monogram canvas handbags with an antiqued look, obtained by the sprayed on watercolour paint with printed ‘jokes’ texts recalling the artist’s ‘Jokes series’ of 1986.

LVMH Young Artists’ Awards2008-2009 : Tribute to Picasso
The topic of the 16th LVMH Young Artists’ Awards is a "Tribute to Picasso".
This prestigious competition has been launched in conjunction with the "Picasso and the Masters" exhibition that takes place simultaneously at the Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais, the Musée du Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay - ending on February 2, 2009.
I remember my own era as a young artist in Paris, buzzing with ideas and new vibes and influences in this cultural metropole every day, competing in the same famous contests and winning some fantastic prizes while exhibiting in all the above mentioned historic places! Souvenirs… souvenirs…
Back then like today… what a great launchpad for the young artist…
Here’s how it works:
Students from Art schools and Academies in France and around the world wishing to participate are asked to submit a work that illustrates the theme
"Painting Against".
The theme was selected by Anne Baldassari, Director and Curator of the Musée Picasso in Paris and Curator of this exhibition, which has been put together thanks to support from LVMH Moët Hennessy - Louis Vuitton.
Six winners will be selected by the jury. Each will receive a €4,270 scholarship and a round trip plane ticket enabling them to study for several months at an art school in France or another country.
Since its creation in 1994, the LVMH Young Artists’ Awards have enabled over 120 students from France and other countries to study at art schools in another country. Many of the past winners have gone on to promising artistic careers.
This competition is one of many initiatives supported by LVMH to encourage education and training for young people.

Closing date for entries: February 2, 2009
Works must be sent by April 30, 2009.
Jury deliberations: May 28, 2009 (to be confirmed)
Awards announced: June 10, 2009 (to be confirmed)

Louis Vuitton honours/accepts gift cards from department stores where they are located. Like here in the UK, we have two LV stores in Selfridges (London & Manchester) so they accept gift cards issued by Selfridges. LV Harrods accepts gift cards from Harrods.
LV stores which are not located inside the dept. store dont have gift cards.

Actually, I did get a "Gift Card" from LV from a friend last month for my Bday. They’re old school, no plastic cards, actual certficiate is on paper–card stock paper and hand-written by the SA who does it. It came packaged in one of the drawer-pull boxes wrapped with the leather lokking string and in an LV bag. Best present ever!!!

Yes!! Agree that LV gift certs. are best gift ever!! I’ve received several LV gift certificates from my DH and yes, they are on paper with your name handwritten on the front along with the amount of gift certificate, but on the back of the gift certificate is the computer printed out info of the dollar amount and where it was purchased, etc.
I’ve received LV gift certificates in a flat box, and then later in an LV envelope meant for the gift certificates.

Needing a new digital camera myself I was discussing with my friend Laetitia Paris, CEO of Bizulle - Shop to Save the pro’s and con’s of getting a NIKON D80 from DubLi Auctions Unique Bid where this $1000 camera was recently sold for $399. Not bad… In fact, a new NIKON D80 is on Auction right now.
However, while I missed the deal at the time and found the camera a bit heavy in my hands due to the metal body, and having a passion for filmmaking, I then discovered the D90, which is light years beyond the old first-generation D80, which it replaces as Nikon’s mid-line DSLR. As such, the Nikon D90 is a D80 with Live View, an almost three-dimensional 3" LCD. It has far more advanced ergonomics.
I am told the Nikon D90 is Nikon’s newest and smartest DSLR and it is extremely easy to use. It has the same or better technical image quality as the D300 that costs much more, and it handles better and it shoots movies, too!
And all this at a fraction of the price… so while we will keep checking what’s coming up on DubLi Auctions in terms of D90 Nikons in the future, I recommend to keep an eye on Bizulle - Shop to Save and its recommendations on the NIKON D90:
