<p><strong>Step 3:</strong> Edit Line 14 by replacing my ID 1 in the link with your YORGOO ID</p>
<p><strong>Step 4:</strong> Edit line 21 &#8211; replace the URL with the URL of your twy2 page (where you will load your twt2.php script on your server)</p>
<p><strong>Step 5:</strong> Edit Lines 39 to 46 by replacing or entering your Messages (to activate additional messages, just delete the two forward slashes at the beginning of the concerned lines. Type your Message between the quotes, replacing &#8220;Message 2, 3, 4,..&#8221;.</p>
<p><strong>Step 6:</strong> Edit Line 58: replace my Twitter user name with yours, so people can follow you.</p>

<h3><strong>The Scenario</strong></h3>
<p>Growing invasion of Marketers into Social Network Communities are contributing fast to the end of the Social Network frenzy. While there are always the more moderate marketers, it&#8217;s namely the aggressive approach and the sheer game of numbers which are hurting Network Communities fast.</p>
<p>Increasing numbers of incidents of breach of privacy and their long term, some times life changing consequences, scare people away or trigger protection mechanisms which are contra-productive for the sound evolution of a network based on friendship, private relations, naive and innocent exchange of views and thoughts.</p>
<p>Social networks may be a great place to meet and communicate with friends. However, the chances for making new, well intended new friends decrease every day, with the growing number of push marketers invading the space and spamming contacts with their best deal here and best price there, not to talk about the business opportunities which will make you rich quick so you can retire young and wealthy.</p>
<h3><strong>Herbalife goes Facebook</strong></h3>
<p>When recently Herbalife launched its facebook offensive, creating its own group and stimulating their distributors to market Herbalife on facebook, they were just following what others had started 2 years earlier. Looking at facebook and the list of communities, you will find tons of MLMs trying to invade social networks under their brand label; some do it more others less discretely.</p>
<p>The same applies to sects and other (internet) guru lead communities. Facebook has become the playground for all those we want to keep away from our private sphere, i.e. people who under the cover of friendship aim our valet.</p>
<p>Nothing against Gurus and Herbalife. It&#8217;s just a matter of expectations; as a social networker you expect to meet with like minded people in a relaxed atmosphere.</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t hang out on facebook to discover that you have been invited to become a friend of a friend because you are an ideal target for marketers who want you to swallow synthetic vitamins and to boost your excitement with Guarana while losing weight with genetically modified soy shakes before getting involved in the best business opportunity on earth consisting in &#8220;sharing&#8221; with all your friends the same nonsense.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s like in private life: when you are relaxing at the beach or enjoying the 19th hole on the golf course, do you want to be bothered with Business Opportunities?</p>
<p>When you are enjoying the best stake in town with these great tasting junk fries, do you want to hear about weight management?</p>
<p>Or when you are in a romantic flirt slurping a Tom Collins, do you want to be harassed with potential enhancers for your reproduction mechanics? When you can taste fresh cold pressed natural Greek Olive Oil do you want to hear of anti-oxidant powders co-signed by a Nobel Price winner who was paid more than a million of dollars to stick his signature on to the box of a food-suplement?</p>
<p>Hey, did you notice, the highest healthy life expectancy on earth is where there are no food supplements, such as in Crete (Greece) and some lost place in Japan.</p>
<p>In country clubs, tennis clubs and such like, it usually is not allowed to do push marketing &#8230; or you are kicked out.</p>
<p>In Social Networks there is no protection and this is increasingly annoying people who meet there to enjoy a good time.</p>
<h3>Facebook kills your Brand and your Name</h3>
<p>Many companies have already experienced the danger of social networks. While at the beginning they thought that social network marketing was a great idea, because one could reach out for zillions of sheep to grab their wool, they noticed quickly the backfiring effects.</p>
<p>Today, brands go to Social Networks to <strong>protect the brand</strong> rather than to market it aggressively. Individual Work from Home freaks spam communities and kill their personal reputation as well as often the image of the brand they are representing.</p>
<p>This is where Herbalife is late and therefore wrong, very wrong and if I had to guess about the outcome I would say: the reputation of Herbalife will terribly suffer from their Facebook Project and the negative perception of Herbalife in offline communities will quickly expand worldwide through social networks.</p>
<p>Some may say: it&#8217;s better that way, so they will fall off the face of the earth faster than otherwise; for how long can you hide to internet contacts that anyone can buy Herbalife products at huge discount online and that you can do Herbalife related business as an Amazon affiliate for free rather than spending thousands of bucks on stock of products.</p>
<p>Herbalife is one of the last businesses online where you have to pay to be allowed to promote their products; it&#8217;s a disapearing species, simply because it&#8217;s an outdated business model, namely online where transparency reigns.</p>
<p>The Internet is the killer of MLM as the Internet compresses away MLM margins. Just check out eBay, Amazon and other price comparison engines to find out that Product Prices cannot be protected online.</p>
<p>With Social Networks, the internet has also become the killer of Brands, namely Brands which are not tightly managed and controlled. The MLM Model pushes marketing and its cost into the shoes of the Distributors and you end up with a fuzzy image, at some places good at others lousy &#8230; it depends on the Distributor involved and the perception people have from his action. Lousy images travel faster.</p>
<h3>And if Herbalife was desperate or extremely shrewd?</h3>
<p>Maybe Herbalife just could not do anything else than joining facebook. Maybe they noticed that many of their distributors are hanging out on facebook anyway and that their network becomes the target of other marketers. Maybe they have noticed that social networks are a huge danger for any MLM network in as much as anyone can talk to anyone and become friends&#8230;and delete friends as well. It&#8217;s exactly the contrary from the strict rules in commercial MLM networks where once you are tied to a referrer, you stay there for ever, irrespective of your affinities or preferences.</p>
<p>Yes, there has been talk about Herbalife on facebook before Herbalife joined, and it was not always nice. Maybe Herbalife moves in to protect it&#8217;s brand and to put some rules and restrictions on the behavior of their distributors &#8211; again a move against basic freedom of expression people joined facebook for.</p>
<p>Maybe also Herbalife is aware of the dangers from facebook as well as about the threat it constitutes for facebook? And may be they are shrewder than anyone expected and try to kill facebook before facebook kills Herbalife?</p>
<p>It would be a brilliant strategy to survive. Join facebook with 1 to 2 million of your networkers and mess up the place by harassing the world with pills and powders. A network such as Herbalife can mess up a place in no time, and believe me they have well started already. And Herbalife Distributors are in good company with all the other hype marketers making facebook an unatractive place to hang out at.</p>
<h3>Conclusion</h3>
<p>The dangerous game of Social Network Marketing, once described as the ultimate sales and expansion strategy, may be profitable on the short term, but on the longer run there will be no winner, just victims. Brands will suffer, facebook will be the place to circumvent like Google Ads on a website and people will find other places, other means to communicate, or marketers will have to move to anti-marketing strategies.</p>
<p>I do not know who will survive, but when 2 multi-billion Dollar companies try to screw up each other publicly, it sure is a great match to attend.</p>

<p>Creating an Ad has to do with a product to advertise, a market to reach and to communicate with, an idea and some pictures. This post will deal with the treatment of images for advertising and we use as an example Ads created for Custom Made Sneakers by Global Sports.</p>
<h3>Custom Made Sneakers</h3>
<p>Custom Made Sneakers need custom made ads. The sneaker in question is a Nike Air Max 97 which has been artistically decorated with Swarovski Crystals to become a unique product in a Limited Edition.</p>
<p>While Nike supplies advertising materials and pictures of the Air Max, Custom Made Limited Editions require their own original images. The Quality of the image is or paramount importance.</p>
<h3>The Project and the Picture</h3>
<p>Global Sports sent us some images from which we selected one to serve as a base for the project. The problem is: the lousier the picture, the more work for the designer. If you count designer hours at only $100, then it becomes obvious that paying a professional photographer to take good shots is worth while.</p>
<h3>What kind of Pictures are ideal?</h3>
<p>Most Photographers use some sort of photo editing software such as PhotoShop, Illustrator and similar.</p>
<p>Ideally we therefore get a picture of the product on a transparent background to be able to use it in multiple ways and for multiple purposes. Photographers should deliver the largest possible file size and the highest dpi or ppi rate.</p>
<h3>What we started out with</h3>
<p>Unfortunately we started out from a non professional image, taken with a normal digital camera. The background of the picture was not in sharp contrast with the Sneaker and the image was not top notch sharp and crisp.</p>

<h3>Prepare the image</h3>
<p>After some basic improvement of the image, Bianca and I started each on his side to get rid of the background. It took just over an hour to clean up the picture to end up with a sneaker on a transparent background. Every designer knows, that there is always some more that could be done -Â  but that&#8217;s a matter of time. We finally ended up with a clean picture we could start to work with.</p>
<h3>Composing the Ad</h3>
<p>Once you have a clean picture with a transparent background, things get easier and you can compose the Ad, by adding a background and other graphic elements, text, effects and so on.</p>
<h3>The Sneaker on the Ad</h3>

<p>A good image at the base will save many designer hours. The above result is the fruit of over 2 hours of work and that&#8217;s just the beginning. From here the image needs to be beefed up to communicate and create immediate empathy with prospect targets.</p>

<h3>YORGOO Ads Plugin for Creative Advertising</h3>
<p>The simple YORGOO Ads Plugin for WordPress allows for tweaking of ads, such as the DayMix widget:</p>
<p>Examples:</p>
<p>- If you use in your YORGOO Ad just the iFrame from the widget, you get rid of the frame and display only the Google search results.</p>
<p>- You can tweak all links on the frame or delete them; there are 4 of them, top and bottom right and left. Point them to some of your sites or posts, relevant to the targeted keyword.</p>
<p>- For developers: you can now create your own contextual widget!</p>
<h3>Semiomantics Contextual &#8220;Do you Like my Ads&#8221; Plugin</h3>
<p>At Semiomantics we have taken the above YORGOO Ads Plugin and the DayMix widget script to create an automated contextual ads plugin.</p>
<p>The Idea is simple: there are two kinds of links in the DayMix widget: the ones in the frame, which Google can read, and then there is the iFrame, with the search results, which can be tagged with a dofollow or nofollow tag depending on your strategy.</p>
<p>The secret is in replacing the keywords contained in the widget with a variable and to match this variable with the Meta keyword variable Semiomantics scripts use to project a contextual set of Meta Keywords into the page headers. Now, each post will show contextual search results automatically (wow), based on the keywords targeted with the post or page.</p>
<p>In as much as the frame is concerned, the 4 links outside the frame content, they can be dealt with in the same way, with the difference that they could represent dofollow links to static or dynamic targets representing your primary, secondary and third level keywords.</p>
<p>The plugin (dofollow links) can be combined with other tools such as the Affiliate Ninja to make sure links and keywords point to the desired target sites.</p>
<p>The Plugin is reserved for Custom Built Sites.

<p>Tracking Online Advertising is important and there are many tracking tools out there doing the necessary metrics for web masters. But before we want to track data from our ads, we need to focus on our primary objective: Get Google Top 10 Positions. There is no reason to serve ads if nobody sees them.</p>

<p>Online Advertising on Google Top 10 positions on relevant keywords is an important prerequisite to monetize your website, namely if you market mainly to search engines.</p>
<h3>How to Advertise Online with a Google Top 10 Strategy</h3>
<p>We have been talking about the issue <a title="Google Top 10 formula" href="http://yorgonestoridis.com/yorgo-nestoridis/google-top-10-formula/" target="_blank">earlier</a> where we defined some simple rules which help to optimize the chances to rank high on Google search returns.</p>
<p>Considering the different elements of a web presence we permanently test the efficiency of online advertisingÂ on our test sites.</p>
<h3>Online Advertising on a web site</h3>
<p>Our preferred web sites (from Semiomantics) consist of three distinct elements:</p>
<p>1. The Software which runs the show.</p>
<p>2. The visible Frame of the site consisting of stable static elements, such as design elements (where applicable), sidebars, footers, headers, defined fields in the layout designed to hold static or predefined content.</p>
<p>3. The Content which can be dynamic (such as blog posts) or static (such as static pages).</p>
<p>The boarder between static and dynamic content is not Â based an exact science, the more that recent developments allow for dynamic content on traditionally static elements and static features on dynamic elements.</p>
<h3>Traditional Online Advertising</h3>
<p>In the past, web sites consisted of static pages with static content and more or less pre-defined areas where ads were posted.</p>
<p>With the development of blogs Google seemed to start to privilege dynamic content, assuring that search returns represent amongst others fresh content and the latest posts on a topic.</p>
<p>Blog sites are traditionally well divided into two parts:</p>
<p>1. The dynamic content</p>
<p>2. The static frame</p>
<p>Online Advertising was added to the static sidebars, headers and footers.</p>
<h3>Shifting Online Advertising</h3>
<p>Contextual Advertising with Google Ads (AdSense) is an automated process by which contextual ads are associated with content whereas the ad served is function of the content (topic, keywords, tags). A brilliant idea, considering the time saved and the enhanced targeting.</p>
<p>Today, there is no limit for advertising; ads can be contextual in respect to a post content or in respect to the main purpose of the site as such. Ads can be embedded in static and dynamic parts of the web site and they can have most any form and shape, from text to media.</p>
<h3>Online Advertising beyond the web site</h3>
<p>Ads can be served with high precision, not onlyÂ on a web site but also beyond: while the reader of your blog may read a &#8216;clean&#8217; post and see ads only in the side bar for example, the readers of your feeds may receive the same post content associated with ads, for example the ads you have served to your live reader in the sidebar.</p>
<p>If your content is subject to syndication, your feed can include any kind of advertising, even media.</p>
<h3>Online Advertising and Publishers</h3>
<p>As the owner of a web site you are a Publisher. Your ambition is to get great interesting content to gain visibility and loyal readership and to finance the operation by associating ads to that content.</p>
<p>Our site is a platform where authors and advertisers meed and where you (as the publisher) balance the different interests to optimize your impact and earnings.</p>
<p>Also as a publisher, your focus reaches beyond the visible part of your site; you also keep an eye and manage your feeds and as the case may be other products linked to your publication, such as media, free give aways and downloads.</p>
<h3>Online Advertising and Behavior</h3>
<p>Behavioral Marketing and Advertising have been an ambition for quite some time. While Google and Social Networks build data bases compiling behavioral data, the implementation of behavioral strategies may be jeopardized by legal restrictions, namely in terms of privacy rules and ethics. Also it seems that pure behavioral strategies remain less efficient than the traditional word to mouth strategies.</p>
<h3>Online Advertising and Semantics</h3>
<p>Semantics are important in any targeted marketing concept; however, as per now, developers continue to struggle and no automated generally useful formula has been found yet. If and when search engines such as Google are capable to apply advanced semantics to the search engine technology, things may change, but yet we are miles away from a semantic Google engine.</p>
<h3>Online Advertising for Everybody</h3>
<p>To keep things simple for average users, developers have invented Niche Marketing. Niche Marketing is a brilliant concept for most any web master, since it eliminates many problems the non professionalÂ may encounter when publishing online.</p>
<p>By focusing on a particular topic, category or niche, the scope of the site is limited and targeting is easier as it&#8217;s relatively convenient to choose products and services to associate to a niche keyword.</p>
<p>Sure, the big advertising programs or big merchants have a solution for all and everybody making it easy to add ads to any site, namely if the site is clearly focused on a niche. And yet, many publishers, blog masters and newbie webmasters struggle to place the ads in a meaningful way on their sites.</p>
<h3>The Google Guru Guru Approach</h3>
<p>Google Gurus, rich of advise, have a tip and an answer to all the problems we may encounter, however the Guru Approach seems more often than not to be focused on the interests of Google rather than the individual publisher.</p>
<p>According to widely published Google Gurus, to reach Google Top 10 you need good (original) content, and loads of it. Looking at search returns, this is obviously not true, and Google is obviously not in a position to measure quality and to distinguish good from bad, original from copy and true from fake. It&#8217;s wishful thinking to imagine that Google search results will get substantially better by just tweaking the algorithm a bit here and a tick there.</p>
<p>Another Guru Approach is to make us believe that we have to clearly tag, mark or distinguish ads from other content. There is nothing wrong with that per se; but as a web master, it is not my job to work for Google and to make the distinctions READABLE by Google.</p>
<p>Example: to comply with legal rules (Consumer Protection) one could load a title &#8220;Advertisement&#8221; in form of an image or a flash tag which Google cannot read. We comply with the rules, however Google is not capable of reading it. Google Gurus want to make us believe that we have to be more catholic than the pope and edit for Google. The Guru Approach often is an approach with tends to protect the Guru Status and if you want to be a Google Guru, just repeat stupidly what Google writes smartly on their sites and blogs.</p>
<p>The good news is that Google Blogs are analyzed by many Gurus like Alan Greenspan&#8217;s statements a few years back. The Gurus then feed their stuff to main stream and they luckily are followed by the masses of developers and blog masters. This is the good news as it indicates clearly where not to head to.</p>
<h3>Online Advertising Secrets</h3>
<p>Online Advertising Secrets, Google Secrets and such like do exist; the day they are revealed, they are no secrets anymore. By definition there is no such thing as a shared secret and a secret is usually revealed when it does not profit the holder of a secret anymore.</p>
<p>The only real Advertising secrets I can think of concern target keywords and the way to reach out for the targeted buying public. No one will ever share with you a money making keyword, namely in an AdSense environment, and no one will ever share with you the underlying strategy used to publish in a highly (Google) efficient way.</p>
<p>And yet there is a solution to the problem: <strong>you can learn to create your own professional secrets.</strong> You can learn how to analyze keywords and how to test and optimize your keyword targeting. And you can learn how to publish and how to advertise on your publication. You draw the conclusions from various publishing strategies, apply them to your business and secret keywords, test and optimize and there will be nothing in the way for you to become a Guru, your own Guru. But don&#8217;t tell anyone else.</p>
<h3>Learn to Advertise and to Publish Online</h3>
<p>Online Advertising and Publishing is a permanently evolving topic and the learning process is never finished. Whether you are building a home business or just selling some products as an affiliate, whether you are a networker or producing your own products, there is always a formula ready for you. The important part is first of all to become aware of the various techniques and to master them. The successful application of any technique is subject to unlimited virtuosity and creativity and that is where the job as a publisher becomes interesting.</p>
