2012 by Roland Emmerich
With a new heat wave hitting the Cape of Good Hope down here in South Africa, the best place to be today was the sea, the fridge or … the movie theatre.
So we went to see the movie “2012″ by Roland Emmerich – which USA Today called “… the mother of all disaster movies”… and truly so.
OUFFF! Disaster isn’t my cup of tea at all, but with my interest in Design and 3D Animation and being a grand movie freak, I went there for the special effects… and I got more than I wanted! In fact, I needed some time to land after having been swept across all continents by land, air and sea escaping monstruous tsunamis, tornado earth quakes, continental shifts, polar inversions etc etc and this in all sorts of ways the human race literally raced to survive after solar flares had basically set the inner earth core on fire with temperatures rising at gigantic speed and dramatically changing the planet forever.
2012 by Roland Emmerich
Without today’s fascinating and incredibly advanced technological possibilities – and corresponding budgets – a movie like 2012 by Roland Emmerich would very probably never be made.
The storyline isn’t that different basically from what you may remember from “The Day After Tomorrow” – when temperatures over especially North America dropped astronomically within just 7 short days and the President of the USA had to make some difficult and drastic evacuation decisions… Here we have the inversion on a global scale, we also have the ‘warning’ and the initial disbelief of the world’s political leadership in what some scientists from the other end of the world – this time at the bottom of a boiling hot copper mine in India – have to report… until things start happening… literally cooking… California disappears, Yellowstone disappears, Washington falls, the Vatican collapses. . . and there is almost no more place to go, no escape… but for those privileged 400,000 who could pay a ticket at 1 Billion Euros a piece – who of course consider themselves as the creme de la creme of the human race and worth of carrying on the species after three modern “Arks” (… well built in advance for this exact planetary situation, hint, hint… and conspiracy believers are nodding…) would place them together with some representative Master pieces of our Civilization’s Art and Culture – like the Mona Lisa, officially stolen from the Louvre – into a new dawn… to start again from scratch.
The joke for me was that this place – at the end of the movie – this new dawn… was exactly here, at the Cape of Good Hope… in the middle of the current heat wave – and the Drakensberg became the highest mountain on earth. Yeah, life would start again in Africa … and there were surrealistic vistas when, within the total apocalyptic chaos, we see helicopters transporting giraffes and elephants in biblic ‘two’s – so African safaris in the brave new world would be secured…
Yet, with so much overwhelming chaos at incredible lengths and with hammering music slashing out at our emotional barometers, one was no longer drawn into the magic, it was too much, too long, too loud, too obvious, and despite the incredible Special Effects – well, less would have been more in my personal view.
I had also been interested in how the Mayan Calendar had been woven into the story, knowing that there was never a prediction of an end of the world but the beginning of a new era or epoche, called the era of “Ethics” – which I would greet with all my heart… but except in stereotypes like “If we stop caring for one another, we lose our humanity” … there wasn’t much of what I would have expected.
So if you are a fan of disaster movies and this is exactly what you expect – then the movie delivers the promise, then this is for you.You were warned!

2010 Noordhoek Accommodation
2010 Noordhoek Accommodation will become increasingly relevant as South Africa prepares itself for a never-before seen influx of soccer fans and their friends and families from all over the world.
While many may be heading for hotels and places to stay in the mother city, Cape Town, smart and enterprising Fifa 2010 Soccer World Cup tourists will prefer to see the countryside rather than being stuck in a town that never sleeps… even a beautiful town like Cape Town. Also, while everybody wants to come to Cape Town, not everybody in the family is mad about football and may want to spend time taking a walk on the wild side… I mean the beach.
In that sense, Noordhoek is definitely an insider tip – far from the hectic buzz of the city, yet close enough to the center within 30 minutes… or even faster along what’s called “… the most beautiful coastal road in the world”.
I’m just back from the beach myself – and here’s just a quick shot of how tough life can get with yet another hot, sunny and simply stunning day!
2010 Noordhoek Accommodation on Google
Stunning is the word… as when we looked at what yesterday’s article on 2010 Noordhoek Accommodation did in terms of Google Top 10 rankings this morning – still within the framework of our exercise – WOW! Positions 1 and 2 plus 2 more on page ONE on Google – meaning 4/10 positions! See it for yourself here:
Please note the example we chose ranks on position 6 on Google Top 10 as well – the place to be!

Semiomantics XO 2010 Licenses Limited Edition
Semiomantics XO 2010 Limited Edition allows Web Site Developers to build sites based on the finest Script which has ever left the Semiomantics site smith. Semiomantics XO 2010 has been extensively tested by Ycademy Pros since September 2009 and the 2010 Release Candidate has been debugged since and completed with some amazing features.
Semiomantics XO 2010 Frameworks perform without Plug-ins
In the past, the performance of basic Semiomantics Frameworks was based on a combination of the WordPress back-bone, the Semiomantics script (sometimes modified), WordPress plug-ins and a set of editing and publishing rules.
Most of the technical issues experienced were caused by the plug-ins.
Semiomantics XO 2010 performs without any plug-ins. We still recommend and install an anti-spam plug-in if the site allows for WordPress Comments and Pings. However, we expect that the traditional blog comments will soon be replaced with external Web 2.0 applications, namely with a Google Wave insert, which makes Akismet and such like obsolete.
Economic Hosting due to low use of Memory
The absence of plug-ins decrease dramatically the need for server resources. Recently we have passed the need for 64 MB of memory namely with some media oriented sites and with aggregators. Shared hosting allocating 64 MB RAM or more is difficult to find and becomes an expensive issue.
The Problem with Plug-ins
While the WordPress development is greatly depending on plug-ins, which are made available for free by plug-in developers, they often constitute a stumbling block for beginners and advanced users in as much as they need attention and maintenance (updates, upgrades, sometimes customization).
Most plug-ins have been straight to the point a few years ago; today most popular plug-ins have been enriched by tracking features and multiple links and feeds out which are uncontrollable by the average user. Some plug-ins import whole external websites into the dashboard, donation buttons and even unrelated third party links and features.
It is not always clear whether plug-ins actually enhance the overall performance of a site or whether the site serves merely to improve the plug-in developers own site.
The Semiomantics Solution
Semiomantics has rewritten plug-ins for a while now for commercial customers and cleaned out what is not actually needed. Also, some “performance enhancers” have been added to the framework scripts to reduce the need for plug-ins. Semiomantics XO 2010 uses only about 50% of the Memory of comparable earlier versions, in any case clearly below 32 MB of RAM.
The Semiomantics XO 2010 License
The Semiomantics XO 2010 License is more than just a license to use the XO scripts and to commercialize it. The License includes all trainings and support needed to customize and to adapt the scripts to the needs and preferences of customers. In fact it is designed for people who would like to start their own business building high performance sites for customers and it includes support and workshops to improve knowledge concerning web design, namely CSS, as well as Graphic Design with Photoshop and basic php coding.
XO’s best performance can be reached by respecting a set of editing and publishing rules which apply specifically to Semiomantics XO and which are the results of thorough in-house testing.
Semiomantics XO 2010 Seminar
The first specific Semiomantics 2010 XO Seminar exclusively for License holders, will take place on January 9, 2010. This one day seminar will highlight the new features of XO as well as detail the most efficient way to customize and adapt the scripts to the needs of customers.
Also the seminar participants will build a site with optimized XO default configuration which will serve as a model for any customer job.
Semiomantics XO additional templates for Photo blogs and Personal may be elaborated time permitting.
Investment and Limitation
The Semiomantics XO 2010 License has been issued in 10 only samples:
5 are Developer Licenses for people who use the scripts as a base for own development and who will not be allowed to use the Semiomantics Signature for their out-put but who will have to brand their work. These licenses are sold out.
5 are Semiomantics Business Licenses, allowing for the use of the Semiomantics script and brand as per above description. 2 only such licenses are available at this point and reserved for YORGOO – Ycademy Pros till December 16, 2009. After that date they will be withdrawn and allocated to external developers in the queue.
The Business Licenses include access to special trainings, seminars and workshops reserved for license holders.

Ycademy Seminars and Trainings Schedule
2009 is drawing to an end and we herewith finalize the Ycademy Seminars and Trainings Schedule for the rest of 2009 and into the new year 2010!
WOW! It’s again the time to change the year and let it be as golden and promising as this magnificent sunset over Noordhoek in South Africa, taken from my garden yesterday evening while my IP migrated my account to their new server and authentication problems caused a total collapse of my Internet connection for at least 5 hours.
Ycademy Seminars and Trainings Schedule
Our Ycademy Seminars and Trainings Schedule looks as follows:
1.
Ycademy Business Building Seminar on 12 and 13 December (12/12)
Depending on whether or not our Seminar participants from the far South – like South Africa and New Zealand – have received their CD material in the post by today latest, we will either do the planned Seminar on MS Office Enterprise (see my mail yesterday) or we have to switch over to the IT Consultant Agenda as you can see in today’s post HERE.
We will decide this at tonight’s WebMaster Call at 7 pm London time.
2.
Ycademy MS Office Workshops 14 to 18 December 2009
In case the CDs did not yet arrive but do so by Monday 14 December – hopefully -, we will use our normal calls for a MS Office Basics Crash Course (2 hours daily).
Please keep an eye on our communication on Monday for further directions.
3.
Final Xmas Call 2009 on Tuesday, 22 December 2009
Let’s finish an astonishing year with music and champagne!
While we will be available for Support if needed, this will be the last ‘call’ this year.
Yes… believe it or not, for once we can really go “… to the beach!”
4.
Semiomantics XO Special License Only Seminar on Saturday, 9 January 2010
All those who purchased this special license will get a One Day Crash Course to achieve high standards and get results. So we start the new year on a high performance and responsibility fast lane.
5.
Official start of the new year with Daily Calls as of Monday, 11 January 2010
I still have problems writing that new date… but yes, this gives us all a well-deserved break to rest and spend value time with family and friends.
6.
Ycademy Seminar January 2010 (1/12) on 23 and 24 January 2010
See the planned Agenda on How to become a professional IT Consultant on the paragraph above.
7.
Ycademy Seminar February 2010 (2/12) on 27 and 28 February 2010
See the planned Agenda on How to become a professional IT Consultant on the paragraph above.
8.
Ycademy Seminar March 2010 (3/12) on 27 and 28 March 2010
See the planned Agenda on How to become a professional IT Consultant on the paragraph above.
Let’s get 2009 to a grand Finale to end the year the way we want to start the next one!

Bianca Gubalke Design
In my last article on “Creating a New Look for a Website” by Bianca Gubalke Design I explained some of the important issues to be looked at in terms of Web Design when setting up a new Blog or Website from scratch or – as in the current real situation – resurrecting an existing Blog – or rather a series of Blogs – and giving them a new Look.
Over the first 10 days, I concentrated on Editing and Publishing good original content provided by the author and his chosen contributors to get the search engines – namely Google – to notice some serious activity and consider sending us flowers again. This intense process also allowed me to familiarize myself with the complex project at hand where I had to wear both my own ‘hat’ as well as that of the owner, Boruch Rappaport. Together that’s quite a headful. . .
The next step was to find a way to dramatically improve the visual aspect of the Web Design – meaning what people see, recognize, get to trust and enjoy coming back to over and over again… the Brand.
The result is a completely New Look for BRap Chronicle.
Bianca Gubalke Design
Creating a ‘New Look for BRap Chronicle’ by Bianca Gubalke Design as part of the project as a whole meant to firstly establish what we had, what we wanted to keep and listing all that had to be changed or built from scratch.
Besides going through the configuration first and adding what was missing – like a Privacy Policy for instance or a selection of visible Categories to name just what comes to mind immediately – it meant developing a visual image first and then translating it into the final product.
Here are a few snapshots of the original “background image in progress” … with the original colours, banner and ad… but newly created post defaults already in place as we have been posting heavily over the past week.
Attractive Web Graphics
It meant creating attractive web graphics – such as:
> the original background image,
> completely new targeted banners and ads,
> practical default pictures in various sizes and more -
all following the same concept, color scheme and font decisions…
Style Sheet
And then it meant going through the entire stylesheet, step-by-step, and implementing each item.
It meant experimenting, testing, evaluating until the desired result was achieved… at least in Firefox. Bearing in mind that browsers display differently, this issue still has to be looked at.Time Sheet
It’s absolutely imperative to keep track of what we are doing using a Time Sheet. Firstly we need a plan to keep us on track and secondly our client needs to know his money is well invested.
So how long did this process alone take?
A good day. . . all of it. . . bearing in mind there was some ‘incubation time’ already.
Yes – things of value take time and they are not done in a rush. It’s up to us as Web Designers and Artists to decide how far we can and want to take it – it’s about our reputation, our name, our brand. Most importantly, however, it’s about being satisfied and happy with what we deliver… and then seeing the sparkle in the customer’s eyes because he got much more than he expected and paid for.
The new BRap Chronicle

Criteria for Successful Blogs
“Working from Monkey Valley” has become the working title to discuss the four main criteria for successful Blogs … meaning when – or rather before – deciding to either create one’s own business website or blog – or to outsource this important task and expansion in case an offline Business Enterprise already exists, to a professional web designer.
We went into the significance of the hidden part – which gives us Visibility on Google to harvest the Traffic we all are in dire need of in order to become profitable or increase profit margins – and the Look, the Image, the Web Graphics and corresponding features and ingredients that people see when they find our website or blog, that hooks them, puts us on their ‘likeability list’ and triggers their reaction to buy from us rather than from the competition.
That’s the game, isn’t it?
We are all in the Fishing business. . . pretty much the same as it is in the normal world. . .
Working from Monkey Valley on Google Top 10
Before we go into the next criterium and just to complete our little exercise and record the amazing results, here’s the latest as to where “Working from Monkey Valley” went on Google Top 10… in fact, it went to Number One!
Results speak for themselves – that’s for Semiomantics Scripts!
Functionality of a Website
The Functionality of a Website or Blog is the third criterium we have to look at.
Content
First and most importantly, the content in form of articles, posts, images, audios, galleries, videos and the like has to be:
> original content (meaning write yourself or hire a ghost writer, i.e. outsource);
> regular (ideally daily, at least in the beginning until you are well positioned, then maintain);
> keyword-related in function of the website (AutoRentSA is about “Car Rental in Cape Town” and not scooters);
> well edited, eg. with the correct headers, tags and categories;
> well published, ideally with the Support of a Publishing Network (eg. YORGOO Publishing).
Additional Software
Secondly and depending on your product or service, you may want to add special additional software, for instance a Shop. Of course, there is a price tag to this as it includes not only the software itself but also license agreements and integration… and then someone spiffy and knowledgeable has to set it up and maintain it on a continuous daily basis.
If for instance kicks and sneakers are being sold like in the case of our friends, Global Sports US, then the latest items, Special Offers and Promotions have to be in the shop under the right and easy-to-find category…. with all the possible choices as to size, colors and blings. . . and ready to be bought with the click of a mouse and a PayPal button by anyone who wants them exactly NOW.
Speed is everything!
It doesn’t end there . . . a shop has to be maintained and sold products need to be replaced – ideally a person of the company familiarizes himself with the software and funtionalities, or a professional is hired – per hour or per unit placed on the shelf.
Time is Money!
As the owner of such a website I have to make my calculation to see what I can or should invest and how fast or at what point I break even. All this needs is a clear keyword-oriented focus on the product to be sold or the Service to be delivered.
In case of a car rental company I may need car leasing or reservation software to automatically check for availability and allow for quick execution of the orders. If on a shoestring budget, I may save these costs by feeding requests via a Contact Form to my Inbox or mobile phone or by integrating a ‘Call Me on Skype’ button and then take care of them personally myself – until the time where my business expands and the investment into relevant software makes sound financial sense.
Interestingly in this connection: in Japan people already pay via mobile devices instead of using the Credit card. It will become a trend everywhere and we have to prepare ourselves for it.
The fact is that since the Internet we have progressively grown into a ‘connected society’ – thus also the emphasis we put on connecting to Social Networks genre Facebook, Twitter and soon Google Wave in our Ycademy Seminars, the finale for 2009 taking place on 12 and 13 December 2009!
The Budget
Finally, it’s all a matter of Budget. That’s our last criterium.
The fact is that people are sick and tired of seeing the same stuff all over; they want to distinguish themselves from the masses; they want their own websites and blogs.
While finding the right web designer to entrust may present a problem, they are prepared to pay the price if the person has a good presence on Google (remember: control your own name…) and has a good track record within this particular field of expertise, and if the product is efficient and proven. Today’s communities and netpreneurs like the personal touch – however, they not only want the looks as was the case in the past, they also want conversion to cash – and this depends largely on the hidden part of the blog, the magic engine that leads to Google Top 10. At a price – there is no way inbetween.
To establish your starting point on your personal “Path to Profitability” it is important that you or your client know exactly:
> what you want,
>where you want to go,
>what your product/s and keyword/s are,
> what your competition does,
> where your target market is and finally….
> what your budget is.A good website or blog have their price – there is no way around it – however, the good news is that once set up properly and promoted in the way we teach on a consistent basis, you get the money back through sales – and from there it’s just a matter of time: your online business will grow.
Ask Global Sports US – invisible = non-existent before as to the Internet barometer in terms of Google – everywhere they want to be NOW. Of course, with Semiomantics – what else?!
“In a few years’ time you either have an online business or you have no business.” Bill Gates
You decide where YOU want to position yourself and be ready for the future.

Butterfly for Laetitia Paris
The moment the torrential rains stopped and light broke through the clouds, I had to get out into the fresh and fragrant air to investigate the amount of destruction the storms and rains had caused in my garden, digital camera in hand… and this is how the creation of a “Butterfly for Laetitia Paris” started.
Magic of Life
Instead of focusing on the negative, I was enchanted by the Magic of Life that was suddenly awakening around me like from a long cold winter dream – every being, even the tiniest – seemed to rejoice and just be happy. . .
Butterfly for Laetitia Paris
Flying off with Trust . . . regardless of the clouds in the sky – that’s how we should live our day. . . every day!
So why did I create a “Butterfly for Laetitia Paris”!
Firstly, because Laetitia loves Nature and Wildlife… and especially these light and colourful beings that she adopted as her logo and that she often features on her highly informative and charming Blogs like “Fouchtra” and “Photozcool“.
Secondly, Laetitia needs a highlight while experiencing total immersion in Code as she’s setting up new sites for her online business that are going to soon hit the Internet, Web2.0 and of course Google Wave… and thirdly as a ‘thank you’ for her never failing assistance in technical matters when needed.
Voila! A Noordhoek Butterfly greets the Auvergne!
Now let’s Butterfly the Google Wave !
