Windows XP Mode Tutorial

Install and run Win­dows XP Mode on Win­dows 7

If you can run Win­dows XP Mode on your com­puter (see pre­vi­ous post) and you have a need for it then you may want to profit from the new Win­dows XP Mode avail­able with Win­dows 7 Pro­fes­sional, Ulti­mate and Enter­prise ver­sions only.

Down­load Win­dows XP Mode

Win­dows XP Mode con­sists of two elements:

  • Win­dows vir­tual PC
  • Win­dows XP Pro­fes­sional with Ser­vice Pack 3 (fully licensed)

Both are free Down­loads from Microsoft.

Down­load both and install as per instruc­tions, first the Vir­tual PC, then Win­dows XP:

Installing Win­dows XP Mode

Win­dows XP Mode Security

Turn on the XP Fire­wall and grab the Secu­rity Essen­tials for Anti-virus protection.

Install and Run Applications

Install now your win­dows Appli­ca­tions on Win­dows XP. You can also run USB devices which may not run with Win­dows Vista or Win­dows 7, such as an old scan­ner, cam­eras, head­sets and so on.

USB devices can just be attached or released.
