Google Maps for your Online Publication
The Development
In a recent post we have tested the integration of Google Maps on the example of Vouliagmeni, Greece. Geography related content is a good reason to provide Maps. Since Google Maps with Satellite and Hybrid Views are available using the Google Maps API, they can be associated to dynamic posts and static pages with just a few mouse clicks.
Some of our projects an developments require Maps, such as the Garden Route Directory or the Cape Sounio Publication on YORGOO Press by Chris Polenas.
The advantages of using Google Map features on our sites are enormous as they include the access to the most interesting Google Maps Functions:
- Geo Meta Tags
- Markers links to posts
- Settings for default controls
- Custom Markers
- Sidebar Widget
- GeoRSS points in feeds
- Set default map zoom level.
- Show post maps on category and archive pages.
- Set default width and height for maps
- Short code to insert map within your post with a mouse click
- Select your preferred map type
- Select whether to show your map at the top or bottom of posts (or not at all)
- Set a location by clicking on a map or
- Set a location by searching for a location, town, city or address or
- Set a location by entering the latitude and longitude
Further developments reach out for advanced features:
imagine the combination of your post with the mapping of the content by entering a picture at the targeted location: For example: if we want to promote a hotel at a specific location, or if we talk about a natural site, a monument or such like, we can place a market at the exact spot on the map, zoom in and then look at the picture taken from this place and loaded to Google Maps; the picture is then linked back to us, our directory, registration, opt-in, order or contact form.
Example: Cape Sounio

Play with the Map and find your way to our friend Chris who will have to increase the Ouzo budget for this summer; but then, it’s one of every blog master’s goals to stay LIQUID!
