Ycademy Online Seminar: WordPress for Authors

Author Blogs are in the trend namely in connection with Social Networks. The Goal is to provide visitors with a representative, empathic impression about who we are, what we are, where we come from and where we are heading to.

People wish to find out more about us, beyond the short profiles published on social networks (which should mainly consist in a link to your full online profile, such as the CashflowIn profile and your personal website).

The Internet is about people, and it’s not just about other people, but it’s about you. Whether you want it or not, your name will sooner or later hit the net and it’s up to you to get in control of your image.

The Ycademy Online Seminar, Edition August 2009 will deal with questions related to the personal online image and setting up your own authors blog.

The Model: Semiomantics Author

[singlepic id=131 w=480 h=360 mode=web20 float=]

Above: customized version of the new Semiomantics Author Blog. The site can be found HERE.

The theme is flexible and can be used with 1 or 2 sidebars of either 360 px or 180 px wide. The layout can be set as traditional blog layout or in magazine style. The fully widgetized theme allows to display content from different sources and in different formats.

The present example mixes content linked to multiple topics (keywords) with the presentation of personal products or services and access to the shopping pipeline. Design elements are style sheet based and the only graphics used are a background and a header image.

The Ycademy Authors Seminar

As usual we will hold two preparatory calls on Tuesday and Thursday this week to prepare the Seminar and to make sure that all participants are equipped to efficiently attend the work-shops.

Goal

Build your Customized high performance Author’s CMS and Publication with a professional look.

Day 1:

1. Set-up of WordPress with appropriate on-site and off-site optimization in function of the category structure and targeted keywords.

2. Static Pages: About, Contact form, Image Albums and  Galleries, Privacy, Terms, Videos, Pod-casts, Editorials.

3. Theme configuration in function of personal preferences, layout, home page.

4. Theme customization: header, background, detailed style sheet editing.

Day 2:

1. Mailing list

2. Sidebars, define content and implementation: feeds, sign-up, flash tag cloud, category display, links, pages, images, videos, shop, ads, social networks.

3. Social Networks: Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, MySpace.

4. Define Communication Flows and link to your Aggregators, Publications, Blogs.

5. Editing: 10 tips implemented (work-shop).

6. Publishing: 5 tips implemented (work-shop).

Materials:

All scripts and materials are provided.

Participants need their domain and hosting set up previous to the Seminar. Preferably the domain should be YourName.com, consult with us if you need help. Recommended Domain Host: yorGOdom.

Hosting: preferably a cPanel Host with minimum  32 MB of memory allocation for your account. Recommended Unlimited ChiHosters at $35 per year, consult with us if you need help.

Ycademy Pros: we host your site at no cost please contact Zo Nicholas.

Limited Number of Participants

Because of the huge work load we have scheduled for this Seminar, as well as the personal attention we want to extend to each participant’s needs and preferences, namely in relation to customization, we have to limit the number of participants to 10.

Tickets

Cost: The Tickets are sold at $50, with the usual discounts for Ycademy Pros. You will get a special invitation mail for the pre-seminar calls directly from Bianca Gubalke.

Tickets are available HERE.

Note

This Seminar is a major event in multiple respects.

First of all, Participants get the latest Semiomantics Theme for free, a $138 value

Site Customization is an expensive issue if you have to out-source the work. High Quality Graphics cost a fortune, not to talk about style sheet editing and page creation where designers charge per hour or per page. We will provide you with Photoshop quality headers and backgrounds and show you how to modify and adapt them for your needs. Photoshop graphics usually are charged between $50 and $100 per piece!

Finally, you will end up with a great mix of beauty and performance, a site you will be proud of and which will give your visitors the right first and lasting impression.
